Summer Plans - Here We Go!

I have been a stay-at-home-mom once again for the last two weeks. The pace of life is slower, but not as slow as I imagined it when I was working full time. I have managed to fill the days very easily, with catching up on house-work, adding another bed to the garden, weeding and mowing, paperwork, getting my doula business registered, attending a birth (joyous, beautiful, and a privilege to support this family), running three times a week, and hanging out with friends and family. In addition, we bought a new front door, Average built two ramps for riding BMX, and we are also taking a dog training class with Glen. We have dog class once a week, and daily homework assignments. Glen is making progress on heeling, sitting, and staying, although he did chew up a new rhododendron in the back yard one day when we forgot to feed him -- that never happens, I swear! -- but I couldn't really blame him. To sum up, the last two weeks have absolutely flown by, with very little blogging going on, although I had good intentions!

During these two weeks I have lost two phone numbers that I needed, misplaced my phone twice, left my purse at a restaurant once, and currently can't find my keys. It is time for some major organization around here. I would like to get the house cleaned up and organized this week, because next weekend we are heading out on an eight-day trip to the Eastern half of the state, for family July 4th events and Average's high school reunion. We don't get out to the area he grew up very often, so are going to try to hit all the major stops on our trip: grandparents, dad, old friends, hot springs, and mountain biking trails! It should be interesting doing this trip with a toddler child and a dog, three bikes and a bike trailer, dressy, casual, and exercise clothes, and all our cloth diapers, all in our Camry. Wish us luck!

When we return from the trip, I start a one-week course for teachers, in order to attain the credits required to maintain my teaching license. I have a feeling this summer is going to fly by, but I have a long list of things I want to do with Sweet Pea this summer. We are going to:
go swimming (already done once)
go berry picking (blueberry, strawberry, and cherry, please!)
float down the river (any river, I don't care, I just want to be on the water)
install our new front door
replace the beams for the patio cover
harvest tons of vegetables from our garden
teach Glen to stay, and to come when called
prepare to run a half marathon in September
go to both Average and my ten-year reunions

What are your summer plans? Am I forgetting anything important?

  1. Rose - Sounds like you are one busy gal! I'm due in less than 2 weeks and SO uncomfortable right now. Ready to get this baby out! After reading your new post I had to tell you about Don Sullivan's dog training video. My parents have been using it on their new pup and it is absolutely awesome. I think it runs about $60 ... but it's the best dog training I've seen. Just a little FYI. Hope all is well!

  3. I am in love with your dog run, it looks like you have used cattle fence panels, but would you mind telling me how you guys made it?? Desperately needing one for my pups and hate the standard look of a chain link fence 😞 If you would be so kind as to email me I would appreciate that sparks3033@gmail.com

Summer 2020 - Life in a Pandemic

I'm in my final week of summer before work as a middle school teacher begins again. This time of year I'm always in a reflective mood.  I look back and feel so lucky to have had this time with my kids. We went camping, biking, boating, golfing, and hiking. We celebrated my sister's wedding, we did projects together, watched movies, and just hung out at home. It really was everything that summer is meant to be. There were many events and plans that we canceled due to Covid, but we did all the most important things. We missed friends, but I also reveled in the togetherness with my little family unit. Today, I spent time registering for fall childcare and activities. It's less than usual, but still I can see the pace of our lives picking up. As we move into a season of more busy-ness, more work, and likely more stress, this poem sums up the feelings I'm experiencing.... Woollybottoms Giveaway

I am hosting my first giveaway! I have been wanting to do this for a while, and I'm so pleased to have it finally planned. The item I chose to give is a new pair of Woollybottoms - wool pants for babies. The retail value of these is $29.00. I have been really into the wool pants thing lately, as you may have noticed from my recent posts (about Nifty Knickers , and my baby blue longies ) so this seems like a good fit. Wool pants can be used as a cloth diaper cover, or just as snuggly warm pants for the winter or for bedtime. These ones are "footies" so they should keep your baby toasty! The pair I am giving to one lucky winner is light blue with fish fabric for the footie part. Maybe a little more boyish than girlie, but Stella would definitely wear these if we got to keep them. They are size medium, and have the following measurements: 8" waist (elastic) 9" rise 18" length Here they are: To enter, simply comment below and let me know why you wan

Review: Yo Gabba Gabba! Live! There's a Party in My City!

Attending a live show is always a treat. The Yo Gabba Gabba! Live! There's a Party in My City! show last Monday was no exception. We arrived only about ten minutes early, and it felt a little weird to walk into a venue where I normally attend serious plays and musical performances, full of children, toddlers, and babies, many in costume. I had been to see The Color Purple there two days before, and it was quite a different atmosphere! Unsure how Sweet Pea would react to the show before we went, I was a bit overwhelmed at first and so was she, but after the first few acts she settled in to enjoy it and danced along to the music at times. Overall, it was a fun experience for us all and a happy memory to look back on as our first live performance as a family. The show producers, or planners, or whatever they are, included a few extras for the audience that really added to the experience for the kids. There was confetti that shot out over the crowd, a huge balloon d
